Quickoffice® Offers Free Updates for Select Nokia® Eseries Devices

Latest version of Quickoffice, office viewing and editing software suite, now available for download via on-device, e-commerce portal Quickmanager™

Dallas, TX – June 15, 2009 – Quickoffice, Inc., the leading global provider of mobile office productivity software, today announced it will be offering free upgrades to the latest version of Quickoffice for users on certain Nokia Eseries phones. Currently this program includes the Nokia E51, E52, E55, E63, E71, E72, E75 and E90 devices.

Starting today, users of the above devices can download Quickoffice 6 as a free upgrade via Quickmanager®, Quickoffice’s secure on-device, e-commerce portal. Quickoffice 6 includes more advanced document viewing and editing functionality of Microsoft Office 2007 documents, ZIP file support, password-protected file handling, Excel 2007 chart viewing and multiple usability enhancements. Subsequent software updates released by Quickoffice for these select devices will also be available on a continual basis, including PowerPoint 2007 format support. Quickoffice 6 will initially only be available in English and a fully localized update will follow in the near future.

Nice! Office 2007 Support… Though I have never used QuickOffice. Should try it out.

My Nokia E71 with the excellent keyboard should be a good mobile blogging solution. I am looking for a good blogging client. I use Wordpress for my blog so I guess most clients should work with it. Here are a few I found:

MoPress – This is a J2ME based client. I could not find any screenshots on how it looks. I like good looking software. Thinking if I should even install this.

Wavelog – This is a commercial software. From the reviews looks like the one with the most features. Should I pay for a blogging client? Depends on how often I will be using this software. Maybe I will try a free one and upgrade to this if I mo-blog a lot.

Scribe – This is a free python based client. Does not seem to be updated recently. No blog for a blogging client. Hmm…

Wordmobi – This is also free and python based like Scribe. But seems to be more frequently updated. I think I will try this out.

Have I missed any other blogging clients? Let me know in the comments.

One complaints I had with my E71 is that it did not automatically connect to the best available connection. That is connect via WiFi when available or drop back to 3G when out of WiFi. I had to choose one or the other explicitly per application. Some of the Nokia phones with S60 FP2 seem to have this feature.

To remedy that Nokia has made available an app called SmartConnect via its download service for select E Series devices. Nokia E71 is one of them.

With SmartConnect you can setup a group of connections like WiFi and 3G. It will create a new access point with this group. Just use this access point and it will automatically select the best one available. Cool!

For phones that do not have this in the download list there is always the paid Psiloc Connect.
